A strong start: the ACHIEVE consortium meets for its kickoff at Empa

The ACHIEVE consortium was officially launched on December 10, 2025, at Empa in Dübendorf, bringing together more than 70 participants from academia, industry, and the public sector. This launch marked the beginning of an ambitious, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary effort aimed at delivering concrete solutions to meet Switzerland’s climate and carbon neutrality goals. Building on this initial momentum, the consortium is now embarking on its first work packages with a shared goal and enthusiasm.

ACHIEVE consortium awarded funding from SWEET programme

To achieve the net-zero target, we must use all available options, from removing CO2 from the atmosphere or industrial waste gases, to using it for chemical products and long-term carbon storage, to circular economy-based approaches. The aim of the Net-Zero call (Addressing Hard-To-Abate Emissions to Reach the Net-Zero Target of Switzerland) launched in 2024 as part of the SWEET funding program is to flesh out these solutions and make them scalable. The decision has now been announced: The call has been awarded to the ACHIEVE consortium, which is led by Empa.

SWEET ACHIEVE brings together 27 member organizations, 29 collaboration partners, and manymore stakeholders to help Switzerland reach its net-zero emissions target by 2050. Over the next six years, what can all these actors expect from one another, and what can each of them contribute? To answer this question, we built an interactive give-and-take matrix. Instead of a static table, it's avisual tool that lets researchers and stakeholders explore their roles, needsand capacities across ACHIEVE's five research work package areas.
