Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Strategies in Agri-Food
Public Webinar

The agri-food sector is responsible for a significant proportion of global greenhouse gas emissions, making climate mitigation in this area critical. At ACHIEVE, our goal is to identify effective and practical methods of reducing emissions across the entire Swiss agri-food system. Our focus is on the entire food system, from agricultural production to food processing, retail and consumption. By quantifying the emission reduction potential and associated costs of various mitigation measures, the project will identify strategies that can substantially reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions while maintaining food production and farm profitability, and achieving broader environmental goals. Particular attention is given to increasing resource efficiency, promoting lower-emission food alternatives, reducing food waste and supporting systemic agri-food sector transformations. We use an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research approach that combines qualitative and quantitative methods to examine behavioural, economic and technological barriers to implementation. Our work package therefore focuses on the behavioural aspects that currently limit the reduction and prevention of emissions. This presentation will provide an overview of the chosen approach and present insights in the planned work. Date: Thursday, 27 August 2026, 12:00–12:45, Speakers: Robert Finger & Lukas Fesenfeld
